Creating a Rustic Storage Coffee Table with Drawers: A Step-by-Step Guide

A rustic storage coffee table is an excellent way to add character and functionality to your living room. It's a perfect place to store books, blankets, and other household items, and it can also double as a footrest or a place to set up your drinks and snacks.

Building a rustic storage coffee table with drawers is easier than you might think. With the right tools and materials, you can create a beautiful and functional piece of furniture that will last for years to come.

Materials you'll need:

  • 1 2x8 pine board, 8 feet long
  • 2 2x6 pine boards, 8 feet long
  • 4 2x4 pine boards, 8 feet long
  • 1 sheet of 1/2-inch plywood, 4 feet x 8 feet
  • 1 gallon of wood glue
  • 1 quart of wood stain
  • 1 pint of polyurethane
  • 4 drawer slides
  • 4 drawer knobs
  • Screws
  • Nails
  • Hammer
  • Drill
  • Circular saw
  • Miter saw
  • Sandpaper

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut the lumber

Cut the 2x8 pine board into four pieces: two 24-inch pieces, one 30-inch piece, and one 48-inch piece.

Cut the 2x6 pine boards into four pieces: two 24-inch pieces and two 36-inch pieces.

Cut the 2x4 pine boards into eight pieces: four 24-inch pieces and four 30-inch pieces.

Step 2: Assemble the frame

Apply wood glue to the edges of the 2x8 pine board pieces, and then clamp them together to form a rectangle. Drive screws through the corners to secure the frame.

Attach the 2x6 pine board pieces to the inside of the frame, flush with the top and bottom edges. Drive screws through the corners to secure them.

Attach the 2x4 pine board pieces to the inside of the frame, between the 2x6 pine board pieces. Drive screws through the corners to secure them.

Step 3: Install the drawers

Cut the plywood into two pieces, each 24 inches x 30 inches.

Attach the drawer slides to the underside of the frame, following the manufacturer's instructions.

Attach the plywood pieces to the drawer slides.

Step 4: Install the drawer knobs

Drill holes in the center of each drawer, about 1 1/2 inches from the top edge.

Insert the drawer knobs into the holes and tighten them into place.

Step 5: Stain and finish

Apply a coat of wood stain to the coffee table, using a brush or a rag.

Allow the stain to dry completely, and then apply a coat of polyurethane.

Allow the polyurethane to dry completely, and then your coffee table is finished!
