Creating an Unfinished Storage Bench Seat

An unfinished storage bench seat is a versatile and functional piece of furniture that can add both style and storage to any room. Materials You'll Need:

2x6 pine boards for the seat top and bottom
1x4 pine boards for the legs and apron
2x4 pine boards for the supports
Wood screws
Wood glue
Sandpaper
Optional: Stain or paint

Step 1: Build the Seat Frame

Cut two 2x6 pine boards to the desired length of your bench seat. These boards will form the top and bottom of the seat. Attach the top and bottom boards to the 1x4 pine boards using wood screws. Ensure that the 1x4 boards are evenly spaced and perpendicular to the 2x6 boards.

Step 2: Create the Legs and Apron

Cut four 1x4 pine boards to the desired height of the bench seat. These boards will form the legs. Attach the legs to the corners of the seat frame using wood screws. Cut two 1x4 pine boards to the length of the width of the seat frame. These boards will form the apron. Attach the apron to the front and back of the seat frame, between the legs.

Step 3: Assemble the Seat

Place the seat frame on top of the assembled legs and apron. Secure the seat frame to the legs and apron using wood screws. Countersink the screws slightly below the surface of the wood for a cleaner finish.

Step 4: Add the Supports

Cut two 2x4 pine boards to the length of the depth of the seat frame. These boards will form the supports. Attach the supports to the underside of the seat frame, one near the front and one near the back. This will provide additional support and stability to the bench.

Step 5: Sand and Finish

Sand the entire bench seat thoroughly to remove any rough edges or splinters. You can leave the bench unfinished for a rustic look or apply a stain or paint to match your decor. Allow the finish to dry completely before using the bench.
