How to Build a Storage Bed with Drawers

A storage bed with drawers is a great way to add extra storage space to your bedroom. It's also a relatively easy project to build, even if you're a beginner. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started.

Materials You'll Need:

1x6 pine boards (for the frame and drawers)
1/2-inch plywood (for the drawer bottoms)
2-inch screws
1-1/2-inch screws
Drawers slides
Wood glue
Clamps
Drill

Measuring tape

Step 1: Build the Frame

Start by cutting the 1x6 pine boards to the following lengths:

4 pieces at 72 inches long
4 pieces at 48 inches long
8 pieces at 24 inches long

Assemble the frame by connecting the sides and ends with 2-inch screws. Be sure to countersink the screws so they don't stick out.

Step 2: Build the Drawers

Cut the 1x6 pine boards to the following lengths for the drawer sides:

8 pieces at 16 inches long
8 pieces at 12 inches long

Assemble the drawer sides using 1-1/2-inch screws. Cut the 1/2-inch plywood to the following sizes for the drawer bottoms:

4 pieces at 16 inches x 24 inches

Attach the drawer bottoms to the drawer sides using wood glue and 1-1/2-inch screws.

Step 3: Install the Drawer Slides

Measure and mark the center of each drawer opening on the inside of the frame. Attach the drawer slides to the frame using wood screws. Be sure to use the correct screws for the type of drawer slides you are using.

Step 4: Install the Drawers

Slide the drawers into the openings in the frame. Make sure they slide smoothly and evenly.

Step 5: Finish the Bed

You can finish the bed by painting or staining it any color you like. You can also add decorative details, such as molding or trim, to match the style of your bedroom.
